Top Running Cranes Type

Long bridge spans are easier to achieve with a top-running crane configuration, plus the hook height (the distance from the floor to the hook) is greater, giving the user more room to lift. This configuration is suitable for larger capacity hoists due to the use of additional support structures.

Top-running cranes provide additional lift height for buildings with limited headroom, as they ride on tracks on top of runway beams. The top-running double-girder bridge design allows for maximum lift height as the crane and trolley run on top of both bridges or girders, adding an additional 0.5m to 1.5m of hook height.

Top-running overhead cranes are generally larger than bottom-running cranes because they can be built to higher capacities and can accommodate wider spans. Since the crane is supported on a track on top of the runway beam, there is no hanging load factor, so installation and future maintenance are easier and less time-consuming than a suspended crane.
